3 Tips & Benefits of A Smart Home

Smart homes are the future of most homes. A smart home is basically described as a home that can be remotely controlled by any suite of devices, appliances or systems that connect to a common network. A smart home is loosely referred to as a connected home. You may think that it’s a bit too futuristic but the benefits are extensive and here are our top three.

Increase Comfort:

Being able to control the lights, air conditioning and other appliances from the convenience of your phone brings a whole other level of comfort and convenience to being at home. You are able to switch off lights and appliances in the instances where you may have forgotten to turn them off or don’t have the time to make sure that everything is switched off.

Security:

Ensuring the security of your home has become that much easier with a smart home. With a smart home you are able to arm security alarms, turn on lights even when you are not home and in some instances see what is happening in your home when you aren’t there. This will keep your home safe at all times and give you the peace of mind to go about your day.

Increased Energy Efficiency:

Smart homes applications and devices give you an opportunity to control the cooling and heating of your space as well as the lights in your home. This ensures that energy is used efficiently and only when it is needed, minimising energy waste. This, in the long run, saves you a lot of money as you will use energy efficiently.

Now that you know the benefits of having a smart home here are 3 tips to help you begin your smart home journey.

Pick an ecosystem:

There are options available to you when it comes to smart home ecosystems. An ecosystem is the preferred network of devices that would be used to operate your smart home. You have the options of the Google Nest, Apple HomeKit or the Amazon Alexa ecosystem. Depending on your personal preferences and the devices in your home, you should do the research and make the best choice for you and your home.

Powerful Wifi Connectivity:

Your new ecosystem would need a strong and stable wifi connection to be able to work as efficiently as you would need it to. Make sure your home has the highest internet speed possible and has a router that has a wide enough range to get to as many rooms in your home as possible. This way your smart devices can all work well together and when you need them to.

Good spots and Names:

Some of your smart home devices such as speakers and listening devices need to be placed in places that won’t cause you to shout too loudly at home and would not need to be moved just to be charged. Make sure your smart devices are close enough to outlets and are in locations where they can easily pick up voices and Wifi signals. For your smart home to work well you would need to pick names for your appliances that are clear and cannot be confused. For example, kitchen light 1 or main kitchen light, instead of light 1 or 2. This way there won’t be any confusion on your smart home system and with the other users of the network.
